Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 44 Preview

By Sam Elliott

Suddenly things have turned interesting in the Vanarama National League title race - very, very interesting.

Stockport County’s lead is not what it once was, and the hunting sharks in north Wales can smell blood.

Part two of the Bank Holiday programme should be a cracker and there’s some massive matches coming up on Monday with a great live game, too.

Dagenham & Redbridge vs Torquay United

All the Daggers can do is keep winning - and hope!

Saturday’s victory at Wealdstone was their fourth win in five, but the play-off gap remains four points - it’s certainly not for the want of trying.

But it’s Dagenham’s home form late into the season which may come back to bite them, dropped points against King’s Lynn, Boreham Wood and Notts County in the past six weeks could end up being costly.

Torquay fans hoped they could play some part after their late surge but after three without a win, their focus is on a top ten finish and building for another push next season.

Boreham Wood vs Wrexham

Suddenly things have become very interesting - but will Boreham Wood hurl another title hand grenade on Bank Holiday Monday?

After stunning everyone by winning at Stockport County on Saturday, this year’s FA Cup heroes have more headlines to try and grab.

But Wrexham - bar one stutter at Woking recently - are bang in form and will take some stopping as the title race opened right back up in front of them.

No side has scored more than Wrexham’s 87 - and Ollie Palmer already has 13 goals since his January switch from AFC Wimbledon.

But with the huge game at Stockport County looming, Phil Parkinson’s team knows they have to keep on winning.

Chesterfield vs Stockport County

Boy, how both teams could do with a BT Sport win right now.

Stockport County’s third defeat in four on Saturday has provoked a title wobble nobody saw coming.

Chesterfield, title contenders for most of the season, have suddenly slid to seventh - and fears are growing that they may not even make the play-offs with the cushion just four points with three to go.

Paul Cook said he was heartbroken by the no-show at Bromley and says they need to re-focus on fast to stand any chance of promotion.

Both could have done without this fixture - even if the neutrals watching at home are licking their lips.

Stockport know they can’t go into next Sunday’s huge game at Wrexham with another defeat ringing in their ears, but Dave Challinor has called for calm as the title race reaches boiling point.

It’s just two wins in seven for Chesterfield, but with a packed Technique Stadium this one really could go either way.

It’s all about composure now and with all the Bank Holiday games kicking off at the same time, the drama will be coming in bucket loads.

Part two of the weekend double bill surely won’t disappoint!
