Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 33 Preview

By Sam Elliott

March has arrived as the business end of the season can officially be classed as starting - but who’s suited, booted and looking smart for the run in?

There may be two-and-a-half months of the campaign to go but things are already turning serious in the battle for promotion.

With so many sides still in with a shout of the top seven too, it seems every game has real significance - so here’s the best of what’s ahead on Saturday.

Aldershot Town vs Stockport County

For the first time in a while, the leaders come under the BT Sport spotlight.

If the past few months are anything to go by, it could well be another TV treat - County’s relentless run stretches from December 11.

Aldershot Town want to be the team who brings the table toppers back down to earth with a bump in Hampshire.

They can take comfort from the fact County have only just edged out two bottom half teams lately - but they’ll need to be better than their last four games, with the only point coming at home to stranded Dover Athletic.

Grimsby Town vs Woking

When you’re really good at home, things are never quite as bad as they sometimes seem.

Grimsby may have struggled for consistency since racing out of the starting blocks with three great first months, but they’re back in sight of the top seven again.

With the third best home record, and now four wins from five, the excitement is growing again at Blundell Park.

But beware the club who have just changed their manager. Alan Dowson’s departure was without doubt a sad moment and under Ian Dyer, the players are desperate for a reaction.

Chesterfield vs Southend United

Just when the chips were down, Chesterfield have found a reaction - and it’s probably kept them in the title race.

Tuesday night’s comeback win over Notts County had fans dreaming again and they see no reason why they can’t overcome a draining February and overhaul leaders Stockport County.

Just when a few poor results and a mounting injury list really stacked the odds against them, Paul Cook’s team has produced two fine wins in four days.

The manager is proud of how they have reacted to last month’s set-backs - and it’s clear to see why.

Now they’re just three points behind the leaders and looking the real deal again.

Only problem for Chesterfield is that they’re facing a team who haven’t tasted defeat now for ten games - all the way back on December 11.

Southend have taken 11 points from their last five away matches and although they have a lot of work to do, they’re not quite out of the play-off picture.

One club always makes that charge and Kevin Maher is refusing to rule anything out if they can get back to winning ways soon.

It’s going to be another eye-catching weekend!
