Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 32 Preview

By Sam Elliott

The FA Trophy may have wiped out most of this weekend’s National League action.

But even though there are only a handful of games still standing, four of the top five are playing for points.

That includes the huge live BT Sport game between Chesterfield and Notts County as Unibet go deeper on what we can expect on Saturday.

Woking vs Boreham Wood

If you really do think it’s two going up from Wrexham, Notts County and Chesterfield, you should have popped your head round the door at the Technique Stadium on Tuesday night.

Woking walked all over one of the fancied few, the game was over before half-time as the Spireites were quickly, ruthlessly and impressively sunk.

The Cards are up for this, and there’s nobody there who thinks it could be a year too soon for promotion. Now third, they’re hunting for their sixth win in eight.

But Boreham Wood also know how to beat Chesterfield, winning their last three without conceding a goal. Make no mistake - these are two good sides ready to show it’s not just about the division’s giants.

Wrexham vs Wealdstone

We’re heading for the second week in February and still only a late, late Sheffield United goal in the FA Cup fourth round has stopped Wrexham winning every home game they’ve played.

It’s a staggering statistic, and of course it means that every single team who have travelled to the Racecourse in the National League have gone home beaten.

If and when their run does end, surely it’ll be a team in good form that does it.

Wealdstone could be that side, losing just once in seven - and a shock win on Saturday could take them into the play-offs.

But they’ve got their work cut out. The Dragons have scored 44 goals in their 12 league games in front of their fans and have won their last seven in the league.

Chesterfield vs Notts County

Most football fans can accept difficult periods, but maybe it goes a little deeper for Chesterfield supporters because they feel they’ve been here before.

After all, it was in February last year that the wheels started to come off. And as they’ll tell you, a promising season turned into a bit of a car crash.

They’ve now lost their last three and slipped to fifth thanks to a horror show of a first half at home to Woking in midweek.

Most fans left on Tuesday fearing old foes Notts County will surely make mince meat out of them in the live BT Sport game this weekend.

But often it's a big game that can bring the best out of players when the pressure is on and one thing is for sure, the atmosphere will be rocking.

County have their own agenda and their focus is on the title first and foremost - not rubbing it in for their rivals.

Notts haven’t lost away since September’s trip to Dorking and have already won an incredible 11 on their travels. Nobody comes close to that.

In a game that simply always produces, both know how important it is to come up with something in front of the cameras.

What a weekend it is sure to be in the National League and the FA Trophy!
