Moor, moor, moor!

Salford City, Harrogate Town, Sutton United.

We’re not just listing some of the clubs Solihull could be pitting their wits against again next season.

But if recent history is anything to go by, we could be seeing yet another new name in League Two in August.

In the three years previous to this one, a club has been promoted to the EFL for the very first time.

Will a fourth new face step up on Sunday?

Sizzling Solihull

Neal Ardley was happy to keep things quiet as the attention fell on the irresistible title race.

Let them all focus on Stockport County and Wrexham, the club’s impressive manager was thinking.

But he couldn’t keep his team’s form a secret forever - and the fact is it’s just one defeat in 23.

That loss came at Stockport County very late on. Even the champions struggled to inflict a fatal blow. Their 2022 record sees them start as favourites this weekend.

Ardley loves a final

Despite his excellent 16-year playing career, Neal Ardley didn’t ever get to walk out in a final.

It wasn’t for the want of trying, falling just short at Wimbledon and Watford. His big career achievement was keeping the Crazy Gang under the skin of the Premier League big boys.

In a third of that time, he has already taken teams to three play-off finals as a manager.

Winning with AFC Wimbledon in the League Two final in 2016, he couldn’t end a season of chaos at Notts County with a Wembley win in 2020. He certainly knows all about the big occasion.

Great against Grimsby

Everyone in the Solihull Moors camp are keen to stress that it matters little.

But they have absolutely loved their games with Grimsby Town so far this season.

Two late, late goals from Kyle Hudlin stunned the Mariners at Blundell Park in March as defeat was turned into victory.

Before in Birmingham, Joe Sbarra and Adam Rooney’s goals proved to be the difference in a more straightforward success. Will it be three from three when it matters most on Sunday?
