Unibet's National League North And South Preview

By Sam Elliott

Who doesn’t love a title race you just can’t call no matter how hard you try?

In January alone, the National League North had four different leaders. The South’s championship favourites lost four games going into 2023, but have now put that hellish few weeks behind them.

We’re heading into the final three months and Unibet talk us through February’s first big games.

Peterborough Sports vs Brackley - National League North

Brackley Town fans will tell any concerned Peterborough Sports supporters than losing a legend doesn’t have to be the end of the world.

When Kevin Wilkin left his post in late September after seven years, they didn’t expect to be challenging for the title again within a few weeks.

Roger Johnson took no time to settle and they’re so hard to beat - letting in just one goal in January. It’s not since November that they let in two in a game.

Sports begin life without Jimmy Dean with a tough game but while they have some breathing room from the bottom four, won’t want to lose for a fifth time in six.

Ebbsfleet vs Havant & Waterlooville - National League South

A few short weeks ago, Ebbsfleet United had imploded - and Havant & Waterlooville smelt blood!

Fast forward to the last day of January as the leaders are back in the groove while the Hawks and in a flap with their title hopes now relying on a sharp upturn.

The Fleet all of a sudden are the ones with a six point cushion and a game in hand.

Dartford have slipped away but Havant will be kicking themselves for not making more of their very iffy end to 2022.

On New Year’s Day Dennis Kutrieb’s team lost their fourth game in a row with a second four-goal thumping. The wheels appeared to have come off.

The German said at the time that he hadn’t lost his belief in his players and they have showed why - it’s now five wins from five.

Mathematically of course it’s not true, but you get the sense the title race could be down to just the two if they can pass this test.

Havant, good away from home, know a 13-point gap even with three months left may be just too challenging, especially after losing three of their last six.

But they’ll also be well aware that three points gives the other title chasers something serious to think about.

What a brilliant weekend it’s sure to be!
