Unibet's National League North And South Preview

By Sam Elliott

There’s three matches to go - and it is very much squeaky bum time for so many in the National League North and South.

We could have champions crowned over the Bank Holiday, as well as play-off places confirmed.

The title races have been must-watch for months and we’re about to see some champagne corks popped - but at which grounds? Here’s what we’ve got coming up in part one on Saturday.

Maidstone United vs Chelmsford City - National League South

Two more wins will do it and the Stones’ party could get rolling over the next four days.

They will be crowned National League South champions if they win against Chelmsford City and Dorking Wanderers are defeated at St Albans City on Saturday.

The four-point advantage will be too much regardless if they see off the Clarets and then win at Welling United on Monday. Hakan Hayrettin’s team have won seven in a row and have taken 30 points from a possible 30 at home.

Dorking fans hoping for a favour at the Gallagher Stadium will be boosted by Chelmsford’s best run of the season, undefeated in five and in a good place after recent wins over St Albans and Billericay Town.

Gateshead vs Southport - National League North

It’s not quite as clear cut in the North but one thing is straight-forward, if Gateshead keep winning there will be no stopping them.

The Heed hold a two-point advantage over Brackley and boast a far superior goal difference.

But any slip could still prove costly of course and Mike Williamson’s men know what they have to do.

Their final three games sees them host Southport on Saturday, Hereford on the final day and travel to Chorley in between on Bank Holiday Monday.

Brackey’s run starts on Saturday at home to Blyth Spartans, then it’s a game at Hereford before Chester travel to St James Park.

Gateshead have scored 15 times in their last four games and know when they find their range, not many can live with them.

But Southport still have their own promotion ambitions. Liam Watson is refusing to give up on the top seven, despite four teams sitting between them and the play-offs and their form falling off a cliff.

Port remain just three points away and after, have two very winnable games to conclude the season. They may not have won in ten but their promotion flame is still flickering.

You won’t be able to switch off from the promotion race this weekend!
