Unibet's National League North And South Preview

By Sam Elliott

We will surely know more about the promotion picture in the National League North and South after this weekend’s Bank Holiday double bill.

Brackley vs Gateshead and Maidstone United against Dorking Wanderers seems to be where the two title battles are raging.

But the race for the play-offs is equally as tense and that’s what we’re looking at in part one of our Easter double.

York City vs Spennymoor Town - National League North

It’s a measure of how tight the division is that after Tuesday’s results, just two points separated York City in sixth and Spennymoor Town in 11th.

That makes this one crucial in the race for the top seven - you can’t count anyone in or anyone out, it seems.

York’s point at Chorley was hard-earned but the facts state the Minstermen have won just one of their last seven in the National League North and need to find another win quickly.

The Moors are back in the picture after two wins from their last three games. They have also taken 12 points from a possible 15 on the road, so York have a job on this weekend against the good travellers.

Bath City vs Havant & Waterlooville - National League South

It looks very much like there is just one play-off spot left up for grabs in the National League South.

Not too confusing? Think again - seven teams fancy their chances of getting it!

St Albans City occupy the final spot heading into the weekend, with ten points to make up on Oxford City just above them.

But Havant & Waterlooville are loitering with intent and the Hawks are looking to sink their claws in over the next five days.

They sit alongside the Saints and Hungerford Town on 48 points but every win now will be crucial.

Bath City are more bothered about things down the bottom - the gap between themselves as the only relegation place is now just four points.

All the sides below them have played a game less, too. Manager Jerry Gill knows his team have the quality but also have work to do before they can regroup again this summer.

Paul Doswell’s Havant have their own agenda but with just one away win since mid December they will have to stand up and be counted at Twerton Park.

It’s going to be a huge double bill of action!
