Truro City Supports Community Football In Cornwall

Dele Fagunwa, chairman and founder of Truro Community Football, was at Treyew Road last week with several players to accept the gift of two large bags of kit from Truro City chairman Peter Masters.

Fagunwa started TCF in 2013 after seeing the lack of opportunities for lads to play football near his home on Truro’s Trelander Estate. The club grew to include players from Malabar and Malpas and now has around 80 active members from across Truro.

Recognising that the years from 16-24 are difficult ones for many, Fagunwa wanted to offer something to bring them together with a sense of community and inclusion. As a passionate Southampton FC fan, football was the obvious choice.

Support for TCF in the early days was forthcoming from many individuals and bodies in Cornwall, including Truro and Cornwall Councillor Bert Biscoe, Cornwall Council Community Engagement Officer Ian Banks and the Cornwall FA. The People’s Palace, a Community Organisation in Truro, has become a shirt sponsor.

Starting with kick-abouts on the Penair School astro-turf, the club now has around 17 players registered to participate in Sunday League Football this season.

Truro City chairman Peter Master said: “Dele has got bags of energy and what he’s doing for the young people of Truro is fantastic. We’re very happy that our kit has found a good home and look forward to seeing TCF go from strength to strength.”

Truro City has also donated twenty season tickets to Dele and his players so fans of the White Tigers can expect some additional vocal support for the club at Treyew Road in this year’s National League South campaign.
