There’s No Shortage Of FA Cup Weekend Thrills And Spills

By Sam Elliott

National League clubs are still going strong in the FA Cup after an exciting weekend of action.

The Hess Express was at full steam as Dover produced one of the shocks of the round by beating Southend on Sunday afternoon.

Super-sub Ruel Sotiriou was on the field less than three minutes before netting the winner to dump the League One side out.

Bromley showed their mettle after a hammer blow against Bristol Rovers - after falling behind with little over ten minutes left, Chris Bush pounced on a goalkeeper howler to level it up five minutes later.

Also in the hat are Wrexham who held League One Rochdale to a goalless draw at the Racecourse.

Altrincham are safely through after inflicting a first defeat in all competitions on York City - Tom Peers with the crucial goal seven minutes from time.

It wasn't such a great day for Chippenham, Barnet and Gateshead, however.

The Heed's Liam Agnew equalised in the second-half against Oldham but Jonny Smith's strike for the visitors halted their cup run.

Northampton bagged two quickfire goals to shellshock Chippenham who were three down at the break and couldn't recover.

Barnet couldn't repeat last season's heroics and were undone by ruthless Fleetwood at the Hive.

Nobody will fancy pulling out Solihull Moors in the next round, that’s for sure.

They powered past Oxford City 5-1 - James Ball getting the match ball as his four goals eased Tim Flowers’ team into the hat. Paul McCallum also hit the target.

Notts County left it very late but they grabbed a dramatic win to send their fans back to Nottingham short of breath.

Ben Turner struck in time added on at Ebbsfleet, who thought they had done enough when Gozie Ugwu levelled. Turner wasn’t having that and he headed home to make it 3-2 minutes later.

Maidstone United are through and they grabbed the headlines - they triumphed 1-0 over free-scoring Torquay United.

Dan Wishart, one of the Sutton’s heroes from their run of four years ago, notched the only goal at the Gallagher Stadium.

Eastleigh needed a Scott Rendell goal four minutes from the end to take Stourbridge back to the Silverlake. It finished 2-2 at the home of a side who have enjoyed plenty of big moments in this competition.

Boston United did what Dagenham couldn’t - they won at Carshalton to storm into the second round.

They did it in style too, winning 4-1 in south west London with Andi Thanoj at the double for the Pilgrims.

Ryan Croasdale was AFC Fylde’s hero - they survived a scare to win 1-0 at Nantwich Town.

Darlington fans won’t know what to make of their afternoon. Leading 1-0 against ten men with four minutes to go, they seemed to have thrown it away as Walsall made it 2-1 late on.

But after losing a man themselves, the Quakers found a second win and FA Cup specialists Jarrett Rivers made it 2-2 seven minutes into time added on.

There were afternoons to forget for Billericay, who were flattened 4-0 at Forest Green, and Maidenhead - who smelt an upset after going in front but Rotherham came back to win 3-1.

There was no luck for Chorley, they went down 1-0 at Mansfield
