The Stones United Are Untouchable Insists Wilkinson

Bobby Wilkinson hailed the defeat of Woking as one of the best of his Wealdstone tenure.

It’s coming up to a year since the manager replaced the legendary Gordon Bartlett and on the evidence of last night the new-look Stones are really coming together.

It may be too early to even be looking at the National League South table but their late 1-0 success puts them up there among the teams at the top.

“We spoke about it in great depth before the game,” he told us after the game. “If you want to beat teams who are top of the league you need to grind out results.

“But we played some nice football as well. The second half in particular I have got to say has got to be one of the best performances since I have been here.

“We kept pressing and pressing and kept them on the back foot. In the end we deserved the three points.”

Wilkinson is delighted with the unity at Grosvenor Vale as 1,323 watched their second home success already.

“The fans here can be the extra man and we gave them plenty to get behind,” he said. “It was a great atmosphere and a really good night.

“When we are as one here we are unstoppable and I’m proud of everyone associated with the club.

“Overall I’m really pleased with the seven points. It could have been more but beating a really good Woking side is a real positive step forward.”
