Team Of The Weekend: National League North

There was plenty of important of results in the Vanarama National League North, but which players really stood out?

Salford City went back to top of the league with a three two win and there was late drama at Boston United as FC United of Manchester gained a point, writes Tom Feaheny.

But who were the players that made it all happen?

As we do every week, we get on the phone to club officials, reporters and managers to gage their views on the weekend’s best - and build a squad of 16.

Here is what we’ve come up with following Saturday’s National League North games.

Goalkeeper: Aynsley Pears (Darlington)
While the forwards for Darlington certainly grabbed the headlines, Pears kept his concentration and made a number of fine saves.

Defence: Rhys Sharpe (Tamworth)
An assured display by the defender and an assist to boot for Sharpe who impressed the home support.

Defence: Jamie Hood (Leamington)
Hood played a key part in the Brakes making it three wins in a row, with some crucial interceptions.

Defence: Carl Piergianni (Salford City)
In difficult conditions the centre-back led the line and was able to get a goal as well.

Midfield: Tom Walker (Salford City)
Two goals for Walker whose energy was key to Salford City getting back to the top of the table.

Midfield: Josh Falkingham (Harrogate Town)
In difficult conditions Falkingham showed his quality in leading the Harrogate Town midfield.

Midfield: Josh Gillies (Darlington)
He delighted his manager with two goals and rightly gets in the team of the weekend.

Midfield: Harry Winter (Stockport County)
A controlled display, including a number of fine passes that created several chances for County were produced by Winter.

Striker: Ashley Hemmings (Boston United)
Two goals including a fine free-kick normally would help a side to victory it wasn't to be for Hemmings but he still impressed.

Striker: Craig Lindfield (FC United of Manchester)
Lindfield scored with moments to go to ensure his side gained a point and was a key part of their fight back from 3-0 down, with two goals.

Striker: Stephen Thompson (Darlington)

A new deal was signed with Darlo and after another impressive performance this will have pleased the fans, he scored twice.
