Taking Stock! Why Foster's Fun Helped David Decide Future

David Stockdale took inspiration from Ben Foster after signing up for a National League season - and straight away set his sights on beating former club Sheffield Wednesday.

York City have announced the arrival of the former Premier League goalkeeper in perhaps the biggest transfer coup of the summer so far.

He will play and also use his contacts within the game and help with the club’s recruitment.

Within hours of the announcement, the Minstermen confirmed a very quick Owls reunion.

On July 8, his old team will meet his old side in a friendly and on twitter Stockdale urged a sell out crowd weeks after helping Wednesday return to the Championship.

The 37-year-old former Brighton, Fulham and Wycombe glovesman says the fun Foster had at Wrexham convinced him to leave the EFL behind.

He said: “I’m going to text Fozzy [Ben Foster] and say if it’s good enough for him, then I’ll be alright then!

“I’ve been watching the broadcast with BT Sports and it’s brilliant, it’s really coming through.

“When I played here last time it was just one of them where I was going in a different direction, and now to keep this club going.

“I’m going to aim high, it might not always go like that but I always aim high.

“I’m basically trying to put things in place for the future of this club.”

Michael Morton will be in charge of York City season and the manager is clearly thrilled with the early business.

“I think this is huge for the club moving forward, not just on the pitch, but off the pitch as well.

“You just need to look at his career and stats to see what quality he will bring on the pitch; but for me, his character, leadership skills and his love for the club are what will help us move in the right direction.

“David will also be working with the management team to restructure the recruitment department at the club.”
