Sutton Agony As Leeds Lift The National League Cup

By Sam Elliott

There was to be no National League Cup for Sutton United as Leeds’ young stars of the future shone in south west London.

The Championship club is the first name to be engraved on the trophy following their 2-1 victory.

Steve Morison’s team gave it their all but it wasn’t to be, Leeds too strong on the night as their teenage prospects put in an impressive display in front of more than 3,000 fans.

Diogo Monteiro’s goal after 25 minutes opened the scoring.

It was 2-0 a little before the hour mark when Harry Gray - brother of Spurs star Archie - slotted home from close range.

It was game on 15 minutes from time when Lewis Simper thrashed the loose ball into the net.

But there couldn’t find the leveller as Leeds lift the trophy.
