Stone The Crows! It Really Was A Day To Remember For Many

Chesterfield yelled ‘catch us if you can’ as Maidstone United left everyone speechless as they did the National League proud in the FA Cup.

On a day where the Stones not only stunned Ipswich Town but the footballing world, the battle for points continued.

The Spireites surged clear and even in January look to have one hand on the champagne bottles. Now 16 points clear with two games in hand, it already needs a miracle to stop them.

They beat Southend United 3-0, James Berry, Joe Quigley and Armando Dobra all on the scoresheet for the club’s 18th home win in a row. There was good news elsewhere too.

Second place Bromley went down 1-0 as AFC Fylde gave their survival bid a boost. Danny Ormerod with the only goal.

Barnet threw away the lead to lose 2-1 at Gateshead, Kain Adom got the winner. Even on form Oldham Athletic came unstuck as Woking won for only the second time since October, Jermaine Anderson with the winning goal.

Manny Dieseruvwe’s double gave Kevin Phillips a winning start at Hartlepool United, they beat York City 2-1.

The big game down the bottom went the way of Oxford City who beat Ebbsfleet 1-0. Andre Burley got the winner as Sam Barratt earned Maidenhead the win over Solihull Moors.

Altrincham stunned Eastleigh 4-0 - Chris Conn-Clarke once again amongst their goal scorers.

There was an emotional goal for Alfie Rutherford as Dorking Wanderers left Boreham Wood with a 3-0 win. Lorent Tolaj scored again as Aldershot defeated play-off foes Rochdale 3-1.

Phil Brown has Kidderminster Harriers flying - a 1-0 win at Dagenham was their third victory form three. Caleb Richards pulled them closer to salvation.

Tahvon Campbell and Aaron Henry gave another new manager - Wealdstone’s David Noble - a winning start. His team were superb as they defeated FC Halifax 2-0.

The top two both won in the National League North as Tamworth managed to maintain their nine point advantage.

Dan Creaney and Ben Acquaye got the goals in a 2-0 win over Spennymoor Town as Callum Robersts’ winner gave Scunthorpe three points at Peterborough Sports.

Banbury United started life without manager Mike Ford with a brilliant win against in-form Scarborough Athletic. Lawson D’Ath’s goal earned a huge three points.

Brackley Town couldn’t make it six from six after drawing at Buxton as Gloucester City gave their season a massive boost by beating Bishop’s Stortford 4-1.

Darlington’s has life too after Matty Cornish confirmed the points against Hereford while a late Gerry McDonagh goal stunned Southport - leaving Alfreton over the moon on Merseyside.

Elsewhere, Matthew McDonald gave Warrington a win at Blyth Spartans, Jacob Hazel’s double was great for Boston at South Shields and Chester could only draw at King’s Lynn Town.

Yeovil Town still have a ten point cushion at the top of the National League South despite dropped points at St Albans City.

Michaell Weiss scored a leveller for the managerless Saints after Jordan Young’s opener. Worthing look the real deal this season and can’t stop scoring - Danny Cashman was at the double at they sunk Torquay United 4-2.

Chelmsford City also look strong promotion contenders. Charlie Ruff’s winner inflicted Hampton’s first home defeat since September.

Alfie Pavey got Braintree all important goal at Truro as Dover won for just the third time as they saw off Slough Town.

There were more big wins down the bottom. Weymouth defeated Dartford 1-0 at Princes Park, Joe Cook scored. Eastbourne grabbed a much needed victory over Farnborough as a late goals from Bunya Alemanji confirmed Welling’s success at Hemel Hempstead Town.

Chippenham’s Caine Brabury left Havant & Waterlooville counting the cost as Weston winger Robbie Willmott scored twice as they swatted aside Tonbridge Angels.
