Something For The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

The league title, a top three finish, a play-off place and a relegation spot.

All were up for grabs when the first Vanarama National League South ball was kicked back in early August.

Incredibly, every single one is still on offer on what is sure to be an incredible final day of the season.

The only things not to be excited about is that fact that the league season is coming to an end on Saturday!

It’s not been easy but we have picked out our three games to watch, focusing on as many aspects as we can ahead of the climax to a brilliant campaign.

Hold on to your hats cut back those nails just in case. We’re nearly there!

Havant & W v Concord Rangers

So now it’s about holding their nerve but be prepared: the National League South title race could go to the final kick.

Havant and Dartford are neck and neck but thanks to their Wednesday night goal blitz the leaders just now need to make sure their rivals aren’t outscoring them by three goals. All eyes on twitter.

It’s not cut and dried, though. Dartford are the country’s form team and Bognor have lost ten of their last 11 games. There is every chance of Tony Burman’s team turning on the style a few miles up the coast. Tense.

Bath City v St Albans

Ian Allinson’s Saints seem to have come unstuck at the worst possible moment. Just a few weeks ago it seemed they could take a top three spot.

But now, if they don’t win at Bath City and even if other results go against them, they will miss out altogether.

They need Hampton to do them a favour at home to Truro, and for Braintree to lose their way when they welcome Gloucester City. Most of all, they need to beat a good Bath side.

Poole Town v Oxford City

Just over a week ago Poole were eight points from safety and staring down the barrel. Even though they will curse two dropped points at home to Whitehawk in midweek, they still have hope.

Tom Killick’s team must beat Oxford City and pray Hungerford drop points at a drastically out of form and leg weary East Thurrock United.

Poole need a favour and a return to form elsewhere but they also know if they don’t take care of their own business, the Rocks’ powers of recovery won’t mean a thing.

National League South fixtures:

Where next?

Dabba Decides It's Time To Move On From Bognor Regis He’s served the club as a full-blooded player, a manager and a trusty coach for getting on for 20 years but it has been confirmed that Darin Killpartrick is calling time on his Bognor Regis Town love affair.
