Scunthorpe Join Boreham Wood In Winning Promotion

Scunthorpe United are back in the National League after their extra time victory over Chester tonight.

The Iron join Boreham Wood in winning promotion on Sunday after running out 2-1 winners in front of a packed crowd.

The National League North Promotion Final winners return after a two year absence and the news was greeting with wild celebration at Glanford Park.

Scunthorpe went ahead in the 20th minute when Danny Whitehall followed up.

But Chester then showed what they are all about and were awarded a penalty on the hour mark, which was converted by Connor Woods.

The game went to extra-time and the hosts were the ones to get the all-important goal.

Johannesburg-born Carlton Ubaezuonu - at the second attempt - stabbed the ball into the net in the 105th minute.

That’s the way it stays as Andy Butler guided his team to promotion in his first year in charge.
