Scott-Morriss: The Promotion Final Is Going To Be Massive

Gus Scott-Morriss says there’s one more chapter for Southend United to write in the club’s incredible season after their semi-final success last night.

Another play-off classic saw the Essex club follow up their extra time win at Rochdale with another on penalties at Forest Green Rovers.

They will face Oldham Athletic at Wembley in the National League Promotion Final on Sunday June 1 - and they once again did it the hard way.

The free-scoring full-back slotted home the winning penalty before getting a whack from one of the fans, but the good news is he’s fine as he recalled one of the greatest night’s in the club’s recent history.

The two well-back clubs are sure to pack out the national stadium next weekend and Scott-Morriss can't wait.

“It’s hard to put it all into words,” he said. “It was a a special night and incredible performance.

“We don’t like to do it the easy way! They have been two great semi-finals, and there’s one more to game to go.

“It’s going to be a huge final, and we’re going there to get promotion. It’s been a brilliant season but we want to end it by winning at Wembley.”

His manager Kevin Maher couldn’t stand the tension.

“I watched most of the penalties but I couldn't watch the last one,” he said.

"We practised them and Gussy has been pretty consistent.

"I was watching the guys up in the directors box to see their reaction and to see their elation was just an unbelievable feeling.

"If you could bottle that it would be worth a few quid."
