Saturday`s Vanarama National League Review....

With second-placed Forest Green Rovers` game at Guiseley AFC one...

....of three weather casualties on another wet Saturday, Vanarama National League leaders Cheltenham Town had the chance to increase their advantage over their neighbours when they travelled to lowly Boreham Wood.

However, Luke Garrard`s battlers held on for a priceless point which lifts them out of the drop zone on goal difference, with inactive Altrincham slipping into the bottom four.

Cheltenham boss Gary Johnson will be frustrated though as his side had plenty of opportunities, but in the end the Robins registered their first blank for fifteen games as the game ended 0-0.

Grimsby Town moved to within three points of Forest Green in third after recording a comfortable 4-0 win at Park View Road against third-bottom Welling United.

It was goalless at the break, with the Wings giving as good as they got.

But the second half saw a totally different matter as a hat-trick from Padraig Amond did the damage for the visitors as they made it seven wins from their last eight games.

Amond`s first arrived on 64 minutes with a header from a Craig Disley cross.

His second arrived 6 minutes later when Disley again slipped in the Mariners` top scorer to net from 12 yards out.

And he completed his hat-trick on 77 minutes when he headed home an Andy Monkhouse cross.

Mariners skipper Craig Disley then added a fourth with 8 minutes remaining.

Dover Athletic show no signs of disappearing from the top five race and dealt a blow to Lincoln City`s own hopes of mounting a play-off challenge with a best-of-five win at Sincil Bank.

Lincoln had taken a deserved 36th minute lead through Luke Waterfall, who headed home a cross from the now permanently-signed Terry Hawkridge.

However, Dover levelled the scores just 7 minutes later when a shot from Ricky Miller squirmed under `keeper Paul Farman.

The Imps went back into the lead 3 minutes after half-time with Liam Hearn netting his 10th goal of the season from close range.

Dover equalised from the penalty spot in the 55th minute when Lee Beevers was adjudged to have fouled Ricky Modeste and Nicky Deverdics duly converted the spot-kick.

And then on 65 minutes, the Whites grabbed the winner with a left-footed effort from Miller.

Woking moved up to sixth place after an excellent 3-1 win at The Racecourse Ground against a Wrexham side who are now eleventh and eight points behind the top five.

Woking took the lead in the 11th minute when John Goddard's corner was only cleared as far as Keiran Murtagh and his shot struck the post but rebounded off Wrexham keeper Rhys Taylor into the back of the net.

However, Wrexham were back on level terms just 4 minutes later when Wes York was brought down on the edge of the area and Dominic Vose found the top corner with a fine free-kick.

But Woking were back in the lead 4 minutes after the break when the dangerous Goddard ran at goal and picked out Joe Quigley who fired past Taylor.

And Woking made it 3-1 in the 83rd minute when Taylor's poor clearance fell to Bruno Andrade who ran at goal and fired past the Wrexham keeper.

It was the Dragons fourth defeat in a row, while it was Woking`s sixth game without defeat.

Woking moved above Macclesfield Town on goal difference after the Silkmen became the latest victims of in-form FC Halifax Town.

The Shaymen moved out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win at the Moss Rose.

The Shaymen are still unbeaten under Jim Harvey and produced another impressive display against a team who would have gone third in the table had they won.

The only goal of the game came with 13 minutes remaining when Shaun Tuton netted his third goal in three games when he slipped the ball under home keeper Ritchie Branagan from Kingsley James’ pass.

Tranmere Rovers are eighth after winning a seven-goal thriller at the Furness Building Society Stadium against Barrow AFC, who had a two-goal lead at one stage.

The Bluebirds found themselves a goal down in the 13th minute when Adam Mekki converted a spot-kick after Neil Ashton had fouled Lois Maynard in the box.

But they turned that into a 3-1 lead in the space of 30 second half minutes through Jason Walker in the 67th minute with a right-footed effort from 12 yards, Simon Grand on 82 minutes with a header from a David Mellor cross and an Andy Cook effort from close range in the 87th minute.

But they then saw what seemed a certain victory destroyed as Rovers scored three times in the final 6 minutes to take the points.

Maynard pulled the first one back in the 90th minute with an effort from 20 yards.

Jeff Hughes equalised in the 2nd minute of time added on with a left-footed drive from 6 yards out.

And sub Jake Kirby won it for Gary Brabin`s side in the 5th minute of stoppage time with a strike from just outside the box.

Fortunately for Dino Maamria, the dreaded manager of the month `curse` didn`t affect him or his Southport side too much on Saturday as they maintained their excellent run since he took charge with a point from a goalless draw at Hayes Lane against Bromley.

The draw was Port`s seventh game unbeaten and from being relegation candidates, they are now fourteenth.

Aldershot Town recorded only their second success in fourteen matches with a 3-1 win against inconsistent Chester FC at the EBB Stadium.

After a goalless opening 45 minutes, the Shots hit their visitors with two goals in 2 minutes shortly after half-time.

Sean McGinty broke the deadlock with a header after Jon Worsnop had parried his initial effort in the 51st minute.

And new signing Alfie Pavey doubled the home side's advantage with a 12 yard shot that Worsnop could only help into the net.

Substitute John Rooney reduced the deficit with a powerful 25-yard effort in the 78th minute.

But Aldershot extended their lead in the 89th minute when substitute Jim Stevenson headed home a Rhys Browne cross.
