Salford Make Grand Signing

Vanarama National League North new boys Salford City have completed the signing of experienced defender Simon Grand following a two-year spell as captain of National League side Barrow AFC.

Chorley-born Grand has signed for Salford having impressed managers Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley during early pre-season games.

He started his career with Rochdale where he picked up the young player of the year award in 2002, going on to make almost fifty appearances for the Spotland outfit.

A move to Carlisle United followed and he was a regular member of the side that clinched promotion back to the Football League at the end of the 2004/05 season.

After leaving Brunton Park there were spells with Grimsby Town, Morecambe, Northwich Victoria, Fleetwood Town, Southport and AFC Telford United.

In the summer of 2013 Barrow signed him and he captained the Bluebirds to the divisional title and promotion to the National division.
