Rocks Clear Out Was The Only Option For Manager Coventry

East Thurrock United manager John Coventry says he had a duty to re-energise his squad over the club season.

The Rocks finished poorly with six straight National League defeats.

That has lead to the boss making sweeping changes with a large number of player leaving Rockery Hill.

Top scorer Sam Higgins is staying - but he is only one of five staying.

Midfielder Max Cornhill‬ and goalkeeper ‪Lukas Lidakevicius‬ have been released. ‪Michael Clark‬, ‪Reece Harris‬, ‪Lewis Smith‬ and ‪Ryan Sammons won’t be signings new contracts with James White‬ and ‪Montel Agyemang‬ having also been told they can find new clubs.

Coventry said a miserable April was behind the decision.

“We ended the season in a really bad,” said the manager. “We lost a lot of games and we weren’t playing well.

“We can’t afford to start next season like we ended the last, but it’s something we needed to do.

“So far it’s been a frustrating summer but we’ve still got time to get more new players in.”

Former Billericay Town goalkeeper Jack Giddens has signed, as had midfielder Harry Lee and Danny Harris.
