Quakers Go Top Of Fledgling Table

By Steve Whitney

New boys Darlington 1883 moved to the top of the fledgling Vanarama National League North table, albeit probably just for 24 hours, after winning 2-1....

....at the Tameside Stadium against Curzon Ashton on Monday night.

Curzon, who won at Alfreton Town on Saturday, fell behind after less than 4 minutes when Liam Hardy (pictured) slipped the ball under debutant `keeper Cameron Mason.

The hosts settled after conceding that early goal and began to ask questions of the Quakers` defence.

But 7 minutes into the second half, the visitors doubled their lead when a Terry Galbraith corner was prodded home from close range by Kevin Burgess.

However, The Nash were back in the contest less than 3 minutes later when Niall Cummins converted a cross from the left.

The home side looked the likelier to score after that, and had a golden opportunity to level matters in stoppage time, but this time Cummins missed an open goal when it looked easier to score.
