Peaks Praise For The Champions That Not Many Predicted!

Andy Peaks says Tamworth’s Lambs caught everyone on the hop this season - and will start the planning for another surprise attack soon.

The manager said he couldn’t be prouder as his players crossed the finishing line on Saturday, collecting the Vanarama National League North trophy following a 1-1 draw with Warrington Town.

It came less than 12 months after the club lifted the Southern Premier Central Division title and he is well aware few were tipping them to repeat the trick.

The first back-to-back promotion in the club’s history puts the players in with some Tamworth legends and the boss says that is fully justified after a year to remember.

“The step up was always going to be big, but I don’t think anyone expected us to do what we’ve done,” he said following the weekend celebrations.

“For a club at any level to go straight through two leagues is unbelievable. There’s some massive clubs in this divisions, and we’ve done it with a few games to spare. It’s fantastic.

“The better you do the expectation gets higher. I told the boys they deserved to win it - the league table doesn’t lie. I’m so proud of such a brilliant group, we bounce off each other and we find a way. “

They are determined to think of the challenges in front of them - but not before a few more matches, and a few more beers!

“We’ve got to release what we’ve done - we’ve built something special, and in a few weeks we’ll be looking at what’s ahead,” the manager went on when speaking to Lambs Media.

“Let’s be realistic, next year there are going to be some tough times and we’ll have some difficult spells, but we thought that this year! We’re going to enjoy the moment, hopefully the fans come out in force the next few weeks and really celebrate.”
