Owers: Nothing I Can Say Will Stop Supporters’ Hurting

Gary Owers knew there were no words which could make the bitter pill of relegation any easier for Torquay United’s fans to digest.

The Gulls will be playing National League South football next season after a campaign to forget.

Despite a late rally at Hartlepool United, there was to be no salvation for the Devon club as their fate was sealed in the north west.

The 1-1 sent them down and manager Owers apologised after a dark day for Torquay United.

“I would like to say sorry to each and every Torquay supporter, wherever they are,” he told Devon Live.

"It's not the chapter that anybody wanted to write in Torquay United history. But it's not the last chapter. The consequences are devastating.

“In the end the performance and the result were irrelevant, although I couldn't have asked any more from the players and how we didn't win the game, I don't know.

“It’s quite emotional for me now, but 'Thankyou' to all of them.

“It’s not about today,” he added. “It’s about the whole season, and maybe further back than that.

“But it's not the right time to talk about that.”
