The Daggers sit five points adrift of safety with just four matches to go in the National League season.
On Saturday, their crucial home game with Hartlepool United ended in a 1-1 draw - this despite the away side playing with ten men for more than 65 minutes.
They didn’t win that game but there’s little doubt nothing but three points will do for Dagenham against bottom side Ebbsfleet United on Good Friday.
The match is surely must win to avoid a situation that seemed unthinkable when the East Londoners were turning over League Two promotion contenders Crewe Alexandra and AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup a matter of months ago.
Manager Lewis, who replaced Ben Strevens with the club still in the cup and five points above the drop zone, knows there’s only one way out.
“There’s been a shift in belief but we’ve got to stick together now,” he said following the weekend’s draw.
“I’m gutted with how things have gone, especially for someone like myself who prides himself on winning football matches. The reality is that we haven't been.
“I'm really disappointed for everyone, not just myself; the staff, the amount of work they're doing, the players, they gave everything and it was just the bounce of the ball that didn't fall for us.
“The responsibility lies with me. It comes down to that quality at the end - and that lays squarely at my feet."
After the home game against already-relegated Ebbsfleet, Dagenham travel to Braintree Town before welcoming Altrincham.
They end the season on May 5 at Solihull Moors.
