Oldham Incredible As Latics Secure A Semi-Final Spot

By Sam Elliott

Oldham Athletic surged into the Vanarama National League play-off semi-final thanks to an early blitz against FC Halifax Town.

The Latics will face York City next Tuesday after tonight’s ruthless 4-0 win.

Micky Mellon’s team went on an early rampage, putting the game out of sight within 12 first half minutes.

They went ahead when Joe Garner headed home - and Oldham didn’t look back.

Mark Kitching doubled the lead soon after, and before a dozen minutes had passed Mike Fondop incredibly made the score 3-0 to spark wild scenes.

The home team weren’t done there and grabbed a fourth goal when Joe Pritchard’s fired into the net beyond the helpless Sam Johnson.

A warning was fired and tomorrow it’s Eliminator night two when Rochdale host Southend United.

The winner of that game will travel to Forest Green Rovers next Wednesday.
