Morrell: Brakes Victory To Be Lambs' Season Kick Start

Tamworth’s players have been urged to make Tuesday night’s victory at Leamington their season catalyst. Victory, they are told, can inspire a strong run of August form.

The Lambs were off the pace on the first day of the new season and slipped to a late home defeat to Bradford Park Avenue.

Losing at The Lamb, where they had such a good record last season, frustrated manager Andy Morrell.

But the ex-Wrexham striker knows his squad redeemed themselves with three points in Warwickshire on Tuesday.

Now, he wants it to be the start of a good early season run. Morrell sees no reason why they can’t take a second three points on their travels at Blyth Spartans this Saturday.

“We were exciting to watch,” said the boss after the 2-1 win sealed by Aman Verma 17 minutes from the end at Leamington.

“We think this can get us going, we need to make this result the start of something.

“We need to go into Saturday’s game with belief and thanks to this win we at least have a good result behind us.

“After Saturday’s defeat, we knew we needed to get off the mark. Nobody wants to wait weeks for that first win and we stood up and were counted.”

Morrell added: “We picked ourselves up after Bradford but now we’ve got to go again.”
