Luke Who's Won! Joy For Williams And Super Shrimper Shaun

By Sam Elliott

The tough calls have been made and the panel can’t go back on their decision! It’s time to announce the National League Manager and Player of the Month.

Notts County fans spent a lot of October rifling through the history books.

As the games went on, the further back they would have to go - and Luke Williams can take so much of the credit.

Notts won seven league matches in a row for the first time since 2010. The best team in the division by a distance last month, they look more than comfortable out in front.

They were the only side to have a 100 per cent record in October, scoring 20 goals and conceding four

Wins over Wrexham, Altrincham, Woking, Maidstone United, Wealdstone and Torquay United saw Willliams’ team blaze a trail.

He is getting the best out of players like Adam Chicksen, the defender scoring four times putting him in line for the Player of the Month award.

That ultimately went to Shaun Hobson, who is helping spearhead Southend United’s best season in years.

The August and September awards were all about goals but the defender’s superb displays underlines the importance at the other end of the pitch.

Hobson has played every minute of every National League game this season – forming a strong bond with Kacper Lopata – who could’ve easily won the award himself.

The 24-year-old even grabbed a goal in the 2-0 win away at York City.

Southend kept five clean sheets in their seven October games, letting in just one goal.

They started the month in 14th but ended it in the play-off places. The fans are really buying into their team again after two many seasons looking down and not up.

Congratulations to both of our big winners!
