Late Drama Sees Points Shared At Harrogate

By Steve Whitney

Harrogate Town had the chance to reduce the deficit between them and Vanarama National League North leaders Salford City to eight points when they hosted Kidderminster Harriers at the CNG Stadium on Tuesday night.

But the points were shared after late drama to move Town above Brackley Town and back into second spot and Harriers to seventh, albeit ten points adrift of the hosts.

Harrogate`s Jordan Thewlis struck the post early in the first half, and then right on the stroke of half-time, Terry Kennedy headed the home side into the lead with his 5th goal of the season to date.

The lead lasted until the 68th minute as Joe Ironside finished off a clinical Harriers’ counter attack with a header from a cross from sub Manny Sonupe.

However, Simon Ainge’s looping 90th minute header from a deep free-kick looked to have won it for Town.

But Ironside curled the ball into the top left corner from just inside the box to grab a point for his side 4 minutes into stoppage time.
