Knowles Knows Boston's 14-Year Wait Will Be Worth It

Boston United star Jimmy Knowles says no-one at the club thought the play-offs were ever mission impossible - and thinks they’ll be an asset to the National League.

The Pilgrims ended a 14-year wait for promotion from the National League North at Brackley Town on Saturday and did it the hard way.

They completed the job after demanding extra time wins at Alfreton Town and Scunthorpe United - a third away win inside ten days.

Boston had only won four times on the road before the middle of March but striker Knowles, whose second-half penalty sent them up, says they’ve been getting better and better on their travels.

“It’s been a long season and a tough season, we left it late to get into the play-offs,” he told us moments after lifting the Promotion Final trophy.

“We scraped through the Eliminator and the semi-finals but it doesn’t matter how you do it, we did it! It’s a great feeling, you can see how much it means to the fans and to the players. It’s been such a team effort.

“We were confident, even though we had to play three away games. Our away form hasn’t been the best it is fair to say but towards the end of the season we started to get a couple of results.

“We knew how difficult it would be but we also knew we had the players. After Scunthorpe, we were buzzing. We gritted our teeth and we got over the line.”

He added: “This is the best season of my career, it’s my first full season and I can’t thank the gaffer and the staff enough for that. I’ve loved just playing - now we get to do it in the National League and we’re ready for it.”
