Jimmy Has A Riddle To Solve But First For More Home Help

Not that he is feeling particularly festive after their last display, but Jimmy Shan already knows what he’s getting his players for Christmas this year.

He’s probably been down to Boots and picked up 20 packs of travel sickness tablets, all he needs now is the wrapping paper.

The Solihull Moors manager knows if his side were half as good away from home as they are at the SportNation.bet Stadium, there would be no stopping them.

Untouchable at their place so far this season, but sadly lacking away - it’s a puzzle the manager must solve.

Moors have won four from four in the National League on their own turf, and incredibly have yet to let in a goal. They even saw off Wrexham in the FA Cup, and their fans can’t wait to get back in.

But on the road it’s a totally different story.

They have lost four already, and last time out were torn to shreds by Sutton United who found four goals to send them home hurting.

Good job they are back on their own patch this Saturday for the arrival of Bromley, and the BT Sport cameras.

“If you look at our home form to our away for it’s chalk and cheese,” former West Brom coach Shan, 42, told the National League’s Oliver Osborn in a Zoom chat.

“That is something we have all got to look at, and the reasons why. We’ve had three losses away in the league already - that’s the disappointment.

“Our home form has been good. We create chances and score goals - the plan is to start bringing that form into our away matches, and get ourselves into a stronger position.”

Interestingly, Saturday's opponents Bromley are unbeaten on the road so far this term.

Three wins in four have come at Altrincham, King’s Lynn and Barnet and they have kept Neil Smith’s side in the top seven.

It’s all opposite - the Londoners have stage fright at home, losing to winless Yeovil in midweek and that means just two points from a possible 15 have come at Hayes Lane.

But Moors were not in action in midweek and Shan hopes the extra time on the training pitch can work in their favour.

“We didn’t play on Tuesday so we need to use that to our advantage,” he outlined ahead of the Saturday tea-time kick off.

“It enables us to get some conditioning work into the players who have been out and gets us more time to work on the grass, which is so important.

“Win, lose or draw we always reflect - it’s time to digest and re-watch the game. We lost 4-1 at Sutton United and we didn’t do ourselves justice.

“We always draw a line under it on the Monday morning regardless of the result, that’s always been our approach,” he added.

“But this weekend is about putting the wrongs right from Saturday first and foremost.”

One thing which has kept the Moors in many tipster’s eyeline is their ability to keep clean sheets.

Only Stockport County have let in less goals this term - and Moors were running away with it before their forgettable trip to south west London last weekend.

“The nature of how we conceded the goals was really frustrating - we pride ourselves on our style with and without the ball,” he said.

“Prior to the game last Saturday we had six clean sheets in eight games. Whatever level you play at that is something to be proud of.

“Now we need make the appropriate adjustments and try to get back to what we were so good at.

“Bromley are a good side and they seem to like playing away from home this season.

“We want to carry on our good form here, put things right from Saturday and show people watching what we are all about.”
