Jefford Makes Rovers Switch

Vanarama National League promotion-chasers Forest Green Rovers...

...have announced the signing of defender Ben Jefford on a permanent deal from league rivals Welling United.

The left-back becomes the club’s fourth January arrival and has signed a contract until the end of next season.

The 21-year-old, who started his career at Reading before moving to Port Vale, has been a regular in the Welling back four this season having made twenty-five league appearances this term.

In his eighteen months at Park View Road he made over fifty appearances and also spent time on loan at Ebbsfleet United, where he worked under Forest Green assistant-manager Jamie Day, who was responsible for signing him for the Wings.

Earlier on in his career he also gained experience from loan stints at Boreham Wood and Southport.

Forest Green manager Ady Pennock said: “I’ve known him for a while and Jamie knows him. He’s a very good defender and the thing for me is that he’s aggressive and his age is very good. He is a good prospect.

“James Jennings has been doing unbelievably well this season and long-term I think Ben has a very good future ahead of him.”

Jefford is available to be selected in the squad for this weekend’s home clash with Macclesfield Town.
