It’s Wonderful For Woodman And Magical McCallum!

By Sam Elliott

There were a number of Vanarama National League players and managers who saw off 2023 in style.

But who did enough to get their hands on the December awards as things started to turn serious?

As years go, Bromley know there’s probably only one way to top this one - and that’s by grabbing a place in the EFL.

After year-on-year improvement, many think they’re now ready to move on up and last month they clearly wanted to prove it.

Andy Woodman ruled his Ravens out of the title race by the midway point as Chesterfield scampered clear but his players aren’t ready to wave the white flag.

Last month started with a steady win over Rochdale before seeing off Slough Town in the FA Trophy. He guided his team to three more points at Southend United before being pegged back by Altrincham - and that provoked a title confession.

They repaired some of the damage by doing the double over Ebbsfleet United, Woodman’s wonderful to watch team saying goodbye to a great year with a five-goal message to the rest.

It was almost a Bromley double with our panel torn between electric striker Olufela Olomola and Eastleigh star Paul McCallum.

In the end, it went to the Spitfires’ sharp-shooter who not only kept his team in the play-off hunt but going strong in the FA Cup.

The leading marksman so far in the National League, he left last month the top scorer across England’s top five leagues – averaging a goal every 82 minutes.

He hit both as Eastleigh dumped League One Reading out of the FA Cup, McCallum also scored a brace against Aldershot, also put a goal past them in the FA Trophy. He then added to his tally against Dorking Wanderers.

Leading from the front, Richard Hill’s team would have been six points worse off without him - and now he’s setting his sights on promotion.

Well done to our two big winners!
