It's Business As Usual For The North And South Challengers

By Sam Elliott

While three Step 2 clubs continue to fly the flag in the FA Cup, the rest get down to business in the league with some vital points on offer.

Yeovil Town, Maidstone United and Alfreton Town are one win away from a possible mega money third round tie and there’s no doubt they’ll have the backing of the rest this weekend.

But while the National League South top two are understandably distracted, those playing catch up know the importance of giving them something to think about.

Those hoping to up the heat are all at home, with third place Aveley welcoming Farnborough knowing victory will see them reclaim second place.

That is if Hampton & RB don’t win very well against Hemel Hempstead Town, who themselves could snatch a play-off place if things really go their way this weekend.

The Tudors will hope Bath City do them a little favour when they host Chelmsford City, who want to avoid a third straight defeat ad return to the top seven.

Is Saturday finally the day for Havant & Waterlooville to start their rise?

They are 14 points adrift of safety but a home game with Dover Athletic - second bottom with also just one win to their name - presents a big opportunity in a game both sides already know they need to win. Will they start life without Steve King with victory?

All the National League North title hopefuls get ready to go into battle.

Leaders Tamworth faced a real test at Warrington Town but are frustrated by a postponement.

Scunthorpe United and just a point behind and also need more on the road - they go to Hereford while third place South Shields knew they really needed to beat Bishop’s Stortford to stop the gap getting bigger but that has fallen foul of the big freeze.

Curzon Ashton are up to fourth but get the weekend off having been due to play Alfreton Town.

Two other play-off hopefuls meet when Brackley Town challenge Boston United and Rushall Olympic welcome Blyth Spartans.
