It'll Be A Massive Summer Ahead For Scunthorpe: Butler

By Sam Elliott

Andy Butler says getting Scunthorpe United ready for the National League will be harder than getting them there.

The Iron ended their two year exile on Sunday after a 2-1 extra-time victory over Chester.

The National League North Promotion Final went their way after Carlton Ubaezuonu’s 105th minute winner.

Butler - who took the club to the Championship as a player in 2007 - guided his team to promotion in his first year in charge.

He spoke of his pride but says there hard work has only just started as he begins making plans for the step up.

“I’m so happy and excited for everyone who has brought this club back to life,” said Butler after the weekend win, which was played out in front of almost 10,000 supporters.

“I’m so pleased for the players and the fans. It’s been a journey.I’m just so chuffed for the whole town.

“We had players playing through the pain barrier, and we had to dig deep but we got the job done. It’s fantastic.”

He told BBC Humberside: “We’ve got a massive summer. Everyone thinks the work stops now - it gets harder if anything!

“Agents think we’ve now got loads of money, but it’s up to us to put together the best possible side for next season.

“We want to give it everything we have got and really go and compete in the National League.”
