Iron’s Mural Is Perfect Tribute To Local Legend Flint

When you’re on fire like Braintree Town certainly are right now, you always need someone to stoke the flames.

So when the club made an appeal for a talented artist to honour the most famous Fire Starter of them all, it didn’t take long for someone to put their hand up.

The National League South club have an attachment with the late rocker, with heavy metal legends Prodigy formed in the Essex town.

Frontman Keith Flint was born in Redbridge but moved to Braintree soon after. The group got together not far from Cressing Road and went on to sell 25 million records across the globe.

The icon passed away back in March and a campaign has gathered pace to have statue of him put up in the town.

But while that is going on, Iron chairman Lee Harding and the club’s committee have paid their own tribute to the hell-raiser.

After appealing for a street artist as they look to install a permanent tribute at their home, they now have some fantastic artwork to enjoy.

It fits perfectly with the song the team to walk out to, classic Firestarter gets the team and the players in the mood as they enter the field.

David Nash couldn’t turn down the chance and he told the Braintree and Witham Times: “When I say the club were looking for someone, I knew it had to be me.

“I was gutted I couldn’t make it back here for his funeral. I have a local connection as my dad lives here so I really wanted to do it.”

Braintree took ten points from a possible 12 in September and have done from the relegation places to the play-offs.
