How Easter Monday Is Looking In The National League

By Sam Elliott

Take your seat, buckle up and grab the popcorn. We’re about to enter the eye of the National League storm.

There’s three matchdays left to go and so much still to be decided. Suddenly, we’ve got a title race - and the battle to escape the drop is just as intense.

We break it all down for you right here.

The title race

Barnet’s at one stage 14-point advantage has been obliterated. Now down to four points, it is incredibly game on at the summit.

The fact remains that two more wins will do it, but it’s no longer when - but now if. Three games without a win, and two of those draws, doesn’t exactly point to a collapse.

But York have been relentless and are upping the heat with every kick.

Barnet make the short trip to Sutton United, who look like the end of the season can’t come soon enough with two wins from nine.

The Minstermen are at home to Oldham Athletic, who have home play-off Eliminator advantage to aim for.

The play-off chase

Those not in the top seven all have work to do to wiggle in with only nine more points up for grabs.

There’s a four-point buffer between those outside and seventh place Gateshead, who visit Hartlepool, and all the teams looking to disrupt them could really do win on Monday.

Southend United are eighth but fans fearing they’ve gone cold at the wrong time will be warmed if they can win at Ebbsfleet.

It will likely need three more victories for Altrincham to be involved, they visit FC Halifax Town after losing seven of their last ten.

Tamworth’s three point return from a possible nine gives them an uphill struggle to make the play-offs. The Lambs are at Forest Green.

Rochdale - with focus now on a home Eliminator - will extend their season if they win at home to AFC Fylde.

The relegation race

Two down , two to go. It was all over for AFC Fylde on a bad Good Friday but who joins the Coasters and Ebbsfleet?

There’s a huge game to come between two teams directly involved in the fight to remain in the division.

Maidenhead United’s eight-year stay in the National League will be all-but over if they lose at Wealdstone, sitting one place above the dotted line.

Dagenham’s Friday victory over Ebbsfleet United was the lifeline they desperately needed. They have to back that up at Braintree, who will confirm safety with three points.

If results go their way, Boston United’s incredible Great Escape could be concluded with two games to spare. They visit Solihull Moors, themselves certain of their place after two recent wins.

That's not all...

There's the small matter of the Surrey/Hampshire border derby between Woking and Aldershot Town with Eastleigh and Yeovil Town both looking for a top-half finish.
