What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

It was another day of high drama at the National League summit as three of the top four lost - and the other side were pegged back at home.

Bromley remain in first place but their iffy form continued as they went down 1-0 at struggling Wrexham.

It was the first time the leaders have failed to score since the opening day as Luke Young’s fantastic volley was a huge boost for returning Dragons manager Dean Keates.

But the chasing pack failed to make the most of it.

Yeovil would have gone top but they didn’t count on Kabongo Tshimanga. The Boreham Wood man fired home in time added on to secure a dramatic 1-1 draw at Huish Park.

FC Halifax can’t find any consistency and they missed the chance to make a statement - the Shaymen went down 4-2 at home to Torquay United, the division’s top scorer Jamie Reid was at the double.

Harrogate Town’s sensational run is over and they couldn’t up the heat on the sides above them.

Scott Rendell struck a hat-trick as Eastleigh beat Simon Weaver’s team 4-2.

Wes Thomas’ double rescued Notts County but Neal Ardley’s team couldn’t win a sixth home game in a row.

Hartlepool went 2-0 ahead but a great fightback showed the Magpies’ spirit.

There was another two-goal forward at Edgeley Park - Jake Hyde and Woking rediscovered their early season form with a 3-1 win at Stockport. It was the Cards’ first win since August.

Solihull Moors are great at home - Paul McCallum notched the winner to secure a 2-1 win over Dagenham.

Chesterfield couldn’t make it four wins in a row but they fought back to take a decent draw at Ebbsfleet.

Kevin Watson now has the Fleet job - his team were in front thanks to Gozie Ugwu’s double but Spireites’ Haydn Hollis took a point back to Derbyshire as he made it 2-2.

Jim Bentley couldn’t win his first home game in charge of AFC Fylde, the Coasters firing blanks against Dover at Mill Farm.

Josh Kay’s fine goal was enough for Barrow to win again - Sutton United now have just one victory in 12.

Alfie Whittingham put the seal on a good afternoon for Aldershot as they ended Maidenhead’s strong recent run with a 2-0 win at the EBB.

Chorley still can’t get that next win - the bottom side went down 2-1 at Barnet despite surging ahead.

Second half goals from Jack Taylor, a penalty, and Mauro Vilhete with 11 minutes to go earned the Londoners the points.

Saturday’s National League scores:
AFC Fylde 0-0 Dover Athletic
Aldershot 2-0 Maidenhead
Barnet 2-1 Chorley
Barrow 1-0 Sutton United
Eastleigh 4-2 Harrogate
Ebbsfleet 2-2 Chesterfield
FC Halifax Town 2-4 Torquay
Notts County 2-2 Hartlepool
Solihull Moors 2-1 Dagenham
Stockport County 1-3 Woking
Wrexham 1-0 Bromley
Yeovil 1-1 Boreham Wood
