What Happened On Saturday In The National League?

By Sam Elliott

It was a wild and windy day in the National League - and we’re certainly not just talking about the weather!

All of the top three lost on an incredible afternoon of action around the grounds.

Three matches didn’t start, postponed due to severe travel issues. An emergency railway incident near Milton Keynes Central meant the travelling parties of Dagenham & Redbridge, Dover Athletic and Sutton United couldn’t reach their destinations.

Following consideration for alternative arrangements, matches at Stockport County, Barrow and AFC Fylde were postponed.

But the games that did go ahead witnessed some great entertainment.

Leaders FC Halifax slipped to a home defeat to Boreham Wood. The Shaymen have now only won one of their last five home games, scoring in just one of those matches.

Wood return home with a 2-0 win. Tom Champion put them in front before Adam McDonnell sealed the points.

Yeovil won eight of their previous nine - but Harrogate made it two defeats in three for the promotion-hunting Glovers.

Simon Weaver’s team have now won four of their past five games thanks to their 2-1 success as Brendan Kiernan and Jack Muldoon did the damage in Somerset. Rhys Murphy was again on target for Yeovil late on but he couldn’t inspire a comeback.

Bromley, in second only on goal difference, couldn’t take advantage - Solihull Moors’ great home form continued, 2-0 it was in the Midlands.

Notts County are coming on strong and another win for Neal Ardley’s men sees their charge up the table continues.

It’s 13 points from a possible 15 now as they saw off Torquay United 2-0. They went ahead through Richard Brindley’s brilliant strike and the points were safe three minutes after half-time when Kristian Dennis pounced again.

In the game of the day Barnet scored in the sixth minute of injury time as Woking’s bad run couldn’t come to an end.

Ephron Mason-Clark scored very, very late to secure a 2-2 draw for the Bees.

It means Woking still haven’t taken three points since August, their winless streak now stretches to nine games.

Managerless Hartlepool United provided a superb reaction to a tough week as they won 3-0 at Aldershot.

Nicke Kabamba, Gavan Holohan and Josh Hawkes registering for Pools, who parted company with Craig Hignett on Thursday.

Garry Hill left Ebbsfleet just hours later - but there was no such response, the Fleet throwing away a lead to lose 2-1 at home to out-of-form Maidenhead United.

Chorley kept a fourth clean sheet in a row, their eighth of the season so far, as the newcomers held Eastleigh to a 0-0 draw.

National League results:
AFC Fylde P-P Sutton United
