Team Of The Weekend: National League South

By Sam Elliott

There’s just no room for error in the National League South - so here’s to hoping our Team of the Weekend selection is on point!

As Dartford and Havant continue to be separated by a cigarette paper, there were some crucial points won and lost to get into the play-offs on Saturday.

It’ not all about promotion. Two big wins for sides in the bottom three give hope of salvation - there was a lot riding on this weekend.

So here’s what we’ve come up with as we have just two weeks left to play.

Our process is simple. We enlist the help of managers, club officials and journalists from all over the country to help cobble together 11 starters, 5 subs and a skipper for the day.

But if you think we’re dropped the ball, tell us! Join the debate on twitter @TheNationalLge

National League South Team of the Weekend

Nick Hutchings (Poole Town)

He kept Wealdstone out to close the gap to five points between Poole Town and safety. Can the Dolphins still to it?

Defender: William Richards (Chippenham Town)
Improving every week, the 26-year-old is in great form and kept Truro City in check throughout.

Defender: Tom Bonner (Dartford)
He is going to be so important if the Darts are to cling on to top spot. An excellent clean sheet at Eastbourne.

Defender: Anthony Straker (Bath City)
The goalscorers may have got all the credit as Bath thumped Hungerford 5-0 but Straker drove the side forward.

Defender: Kodi Lyons-Foster (Whitehawk)
A second appearance inside a week for the talented defender. The Hawks are still fighting and they did damage to Welling on Saturday.

Midfielder: Jack Compton (Bath City)
He didn’t get in amongst the Romas five goals but he played a big part in many of them. Always such a danger.

Midfielder: Sanchez Watt (Hemel Hempstead)
Two goals and a Man of the Match display eased Hemel towards the top seven finish - but sadly relegated Bognor Regis.

Midfielder: Luke Allen (Braintree Town)
He kept his composure right at the death as the Iron’s incredible late comeback gave a great boost to their play-off chances.

Striker: Gethyn Hill (Weston-super-Mare)
His first ever hat-trick for Weston-super-Mare was richly deserved. Now on 19 goals for the season.

Striker: Scott Fenwick (Chelmsford City)
Just the four goals for the red-hot Clarets hitman against East Thurrock. He totally outshone Golden Boot leader Sam Higgins. Captain.

Jason Prior (Havant & W)
He’s in the company of a hat-trick scorer and a four goal hero but his incredible winner against St Albans could be the biggest goal he’s ever scored.

Substitutes:

Jarrod Welch (Weston)
Opi Edwards (Bath City)
Jamie Whisken (Poole Town)
Taylor Miles (Chelmsford City)
Andy Sandell (Chippenham)
