Smith Says Bromley Can Build From FA Trophy Heartbreak

By Tom Feaheny

Bromley boss Neil Smith says he takes great pride in how his side performed in the FA Trophy despite their penalty shootout loss.

With seconds to go it looked like the Vanarama National League side were going to win the Trophy but a late goal led to extra-time and then penalties.

“I’m upset for the players, but you look at the journey we have been on and I'm proud,” Smith said in the press conference afterwards.

"Up to nearly the last kick of the game, we got it right but you applaud the character they showed as well.

"With penalties it really is a lottery and it just wasn't for us on the day."

Smith says that each and every player has done a job they should be proud of.

“At the start of pre-season if you'd have told me the journey we'd have been on in this and the league, I'd have been delighted.

"Now it is all about starting again and looking ahead to next season."
