Curzon And Port Cause An Award Storm After Stellar Months

By Sam Elliott

It was another marvellous National League North month as the title race continues to rumble on - but the latest winners aren’t involved in the championship tussle.

Southport would have been had their season started when Jim Bentley was placed in charge.

It has been a rollercoaster since the former Morecambe boss came through the door but fans will be encouraged by their settled outlook of late.

November was very encouraging despite a narrow loss to leaders Scunthorpe. Progress in the FA Trophy was emphatically confirmed with a 4-0 downing of South Shields. They beat the North East outfit in the league too and also prospered in tough away days at Rushall Olympic and Blyth Spartans.

Port then finished the month with a good win against in-form Buxton. They may be quite a few places off the top seven but in terms of points, there’s not much in it at all!

The Manager of the Month has had so much to do with the revival and the recipient of the Player of the Month has also caught the eye in the north west as well.

Curzon Ashton are at it again. They’re slipping in unnoticed and since Craig Mahon took over, they too look a totally different prospect.

Isaac Sinclair has been influential for the Nash and his work-rate has helped the novice manager make a real go of it.

Curzon performed incredibly throughout November – no sides bagged as many points in the month as they did – with much to do with the performances of the talented 22-year-old.

The high-energy, box-to-box midfielder has created a number of chances and the club say he has been outstanding in every game he’s played. It helped too that he has played in every minute of every match!

Last month, his side beat Banbury United, Blyth Spartans, Bishop’s Stortford and Spennymoor. It was in that game where he scored a brilliant winning goal, starting the attack in his own half and finishing it off on the edge of the box.

All of a sudden these clubs both have a huge 2024 to look forward to!
