BT Cameras Roll! Will Ravens Or The Gulls Really Take Flight?

By Sam Elliott

Bromley may have won four matches in a row but Andy Woodman doesn’t think his players know just how good they actually are.

Should they get a fifth in front of the cameras this weekend, they will need to start believing their manager’s hype.

Torquay United are in town on Saturday, a game now live on BT Sport.

After seeing off Barnet, Dover, Grimsby and Weymouth the Hayes Lane boss is still hinting they aren’t quite the complete package.

He feels there is something special happening - but one thing is for sure, they will have to play until the very last second.

Torquay love late, late drama when they are on the box. Just ask Chesterfield.

Two weeks ago the Spireites were 2-0 ahead going in the last minute, but Gary Johnson’s team still salvaged a remarkable point.

Woodman wants them to show the nation that Bromley mean business on Saturday.

But even after hitting the net 13 times in their five home games, he told the players they need to start scoring even more goals.

“I thought the lads were excellent on Tuesday but my only criticism is that we didn’t score more,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“We carried a great threat going forward. We do our homework - we know how to set the traps and we have been executing them.

“These boys need to start believing how good they are.

“I've wanted to bring an air of professionalism to the club since I have been here, and the message to them is now I want them to be more ruthless.

“I said that to them at half-time on Tuesday, with a few choice words thrown in!

“I won’t accept mediocre. It’s not what we’re about. We’re not chucking money about, we’ve got some good youngsters and it’s nice mix. We’re not going out and buying anyone and everyone. It’s a good balance and they are working really hard.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday now in front of the cameras.

“We want to keep this good run going, because that’s what top clubs do. They keep winning - I’ve told the guys just because we’ve won four, that’s not enough.

“There’s something going on here at the moment and I want to keep the momentum going.”

Gary Johnson isn’t fussed about his team’s long road trips.

After hitting Wealdstone for five last Saturday, the Gulls went down 2-0 at Boreham Wood on Tuesday night.

He says he wants his players to bounce back quickly after a poor display in Herfordshire and thinks another TV date represents the perfect chance.

"I am pleased we have got another game on Saturday because I need to get that one out of my head,” he told Devon Live.

"I don't like losing games like that. For an hour and 20 minutes I thought they dictated the game. We had sorts of bits and pieces going on but nothing much. We didn't get our game going.”

He added: “It wasn't the ref today, it was us, we weren't showing enough ability.

“In the last 10 minutes we gave it a bit of a go. We tried to put a few more on the pitch going forward, and less at the back - they had their little breaks but we at least created a couple of chances.

“A lot of teams are going to come here and get beaten 1-0, 2-0. They use their experience very well. They out competed us on the day. They were more energetic, strong and clever."
