Experienced Keeper Keeps Clean Sheet Against Former Club On Debut

Nuneaton Town have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Dean Lyness.

The 26-year-old came through the ranks at home-town club Birmingham City before moving `north of the border` with Heart of Midlothian in 2009.

Joining Kidderminster Harriers in 2011, he was to spend a season with the Aggborough outfit before moving on to Burton Albion where he made his first Football League outings.

The one-time England under-17 international then linked up with Blackpool following a successful time on loan at the club before being released in the summer.

“I was delighted to get the call to come here,” said Lyness. “Things can change quickly in football and I am determined to come in and make a positive contribution.

“I’ve always been vocal on the pitch; I like to organise the players in front of me to give them a clearer picture of what’s going on. Hopefully I’ll bring that and the experience of having played in League One and Two to the team.

“My main job, though, is to keep the ball out of the net. I know a lot of lads who play at this level and it’s a highly competitive League with more full-time teams than ever, so it’s going to be a good challenge for me.

“I can’t wait to get started. I was up against Kidderminster Harriers last night and it was the first time that I have faced one of my former clubs.

“I just want to be able to establish myself in the team, keep as many clean sheets as possible and help the team progress.

“If I’m keeping clean sheets then we’ve always got a chance to win games with the attacking talent that we have here”.
