Excitement Builds Ahead Of A Brilliant FA Cup Weekend!

By Sam Elliott

It’s the weekend which could totally change everything for some clubs - one win and a little luck in the draw could make a whole world of difference.

The FA Cup second round of course sees clubs 90 minutes away from a possible trip to Old Trafford, Anfield and treble winners Manchester City. By Sunday night, the out-look could be totally transformed.

It all gets underway on Friday night as York City meet 2013 winners Wigan Athletic live on BBC Two. Minstermen captain Lennell John-Lewis sees no reason why his club can’t kick off a huge few days in style.

"We’ve taken confidence from our last few games, so for me we’ve just got to go out there and do it,” the skipper said. “We’re at home and we’re under the lights in front of our fantastic fans - and we believe.”

There are 20 ties over four days, with National League North Alfreton Town's home game with League Two Walsall live on BBC One on Saturday afternoon.

Dean Brennan knows Barnet must banish their recent blues if they have any chance at Newport County and the Bees boss said: “We need to draw a line under a tough few weeks and go there with belief.”

With Levi Amantchi spear-heading their attack, Maidstone United feel they have a chance against anyone - so it’s Barrow beware on Saturday.

There’s massive National League focus on Sunday. It starts as Eastleigh face League One strugglers Reading, the game is live at 1.30pm on ITV1 & ITVX.

Chesterfield fans expect after sending unbeaten Portsmouth packing in the last round - it’s Leyton Orient next for Paul Cook’s pace-setters, who have been brilliant at home all season.

Also at 2pm, Aldershot Town fall into focus. Stockport County are familiar foes of course but flying in League Two Tommy Widdrington’s team will need to be at their very best to cause an upset.

Yeovil Town boss Mark Cooper has urged Yeovil Town to seize their chance at Wrexham, the game kicks off at 3.45pm.

The second-round winning teams receive £67,000 in prize money - and of course a spot in the lucrative third round!
