Evatt Blasts Below Par Barrow After "Rude Awakening"

Ian Evatt hasn't got time for the usual clichés about pre-season after his side were given a "rude awakening" on Tuesday evening.

The Bluebirds slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Furness Select after squandering a first-half lead.

And while some managers believe results aren't everything in pre-season, Evatt is not one of them.

"There's no excuses, that's not good enough," he told The Mail.

"But it's hopefully now a rude awakening for one or two and we've just got to improve.

"It's early on in pre-season and we've been back eight days, but in no way is that acceptable.

"We need to work harder in and out of possession and be better in possession, especially in the final third.

"It's now back to the drawing board, back to working hard, but I must say again credit to them because I thought they were outstanding."

Barrow get their 2019/20 National League season underway against Wrexham on August 3.
