Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 46 Preview

By Sam Elliott

The climax of the season is finally here - so who will keep their cool in the heat of Sunday’s title inferno?

The absorbing championship race will finally be run this weekend and for Stockport County, a point will do it. But this helter-skelter chase for first place has twisted and turned for months and just maybe there’s one more dramatic day to come.

There’s so much more to the big finale with seventh place to be decided as well as discovering who gets some crucial home advantage in the play-offs. Here’s our pick of the games.

Stockport County vs FC Halifax Town

Now they know what they need, Stockport County just need to figure out how to get it.

A point secures the National League title and understandably Dave Challinor has called for calm. Wednesday’s win over Torquay United means they are nearly there and the finishing line is now in sight.

But in a title race full of twists and turns pretty much the whole way, will we get one final swing of the pendulum - or can County keep their composure and return to the EFL?

But don’t be fooled into thinking FC Halifax Town have nothing to play for. They are in a neck-and-neck race for the top three and want to avoid the Eliminators and secure a free pass to the semi-finals by pipping Solihull Moors.

Dagenham & Redbridge vs Wrexham

They have done all they can - now Wrexham just have to find one more win… and hope.

Phil Parkinson’s side require a huge favour from FC Halifax Town but whatever happens, he already knows he couldn’t have asked for any more from his players.

There’s no way both these teams will be celebrating come 5pm on Sunday.

Dagenham are also praying for some help elsewhere, they need to win this one and for Woking to do them an almighty good deed at Chesterfield if they have any chance of making the play-offs.

Daggers haven’t quite been at it at home this season, failing to win 12 of their 21 games in East London while only title foes Stockport have a better away record than Wrexham.

Chesterfield vs Woking

Chesterfield know what they have to do but you get the feeling Paul Cook’s side need a performance as well as the point they require to confirm their place.

Things haven’t got to plan since the former Ipswich Town manager returned to the club.

Once in title contention, they know they could lose out on the final day all together if they manage to lose to Woking.

They could of course get in anyway if Dagenham fail to beat Wrexham, but after four defeats in five they know it’s not only about getting their spot, it’s about finding some confidence as well.

They face a Woking side who need to give their fans some cheer, and to head into the summer with hope for next term.

Manager Darren Sarll ripped into his team after recent displays, calling them ‘rubbish’ and ‘boring’.

More is expected of the Cards next season, and with contracts up for grabs he has challenged his players to impress.

It’s going to be an electric final day!
