Unibet's Vanarama National League Matchday 24 Preview

By Sam Elliott

It’s not all about the FA Cup this weekend, folks - there’s the small matter of the electric National League title race.

A few of the very in-form promotion chasers are battling for three points and there’s also the small matters of a relegation six pointer to whet the appetite

We’re fast entering the business end of the season so what will the first Saturday programme in 2022 bring? Let’s take a look.

Weymouth vs Southend United

While the red hot race to enter the EFL is grabbing focus, the battle to stay in the National League is intense as well.

The two clubs are separated by the dreaded dotted line - with Weymouth the ones tucked inside.

Southend don’t fancy a third relegation in three years and victory at the Wessex Stadium will give them a little breathing room.

The Terras’ form needs addressing with six defeats in the row but the Blues have only won once away from home since the opening day. Both teams really need a win which could shape the months ahead.

Dover Athletic vs Notts County

Dover last officially registered a National League victory on February 22 2020.

After last season’s results were expunged, this season hasn’t been much better for the Whites, who have lost 18 of their 22 matches already.

Stranded 24 points from safety, the last thing they needed was a visit from a very in-form Notts County.

Wins over Dagenham, Southend and Wrexham have kept Ian Burchnall’s team in touch.

But their away form overall needs improving if they want to challenge for the title in 2020 - just three victories on the road isn’t enough but with an attractive fixture list in the weeks ahead, they are eyeing an up-turn to keep the heat on.

Bromley vs Solihull Moors

Moors will leapfrog Bromley with a win at Hayes Lane but it remains one of the toughest grounds to get a result at.

Andy Woodman’s team have won six from nine at home, with only Yeovil Town escaping with three points.

But Solihull have only been defeated at Dagenham and Notts County on the road - they will fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways.

Neal Ardley’s team don’t concede goals, letting in just one in the last 450 minutes of football.

Bromley need to re-find their shooting boots with just two goals in their last three outings.

Their defeat at struggling Maidenhead United last time out was a set-back but Woodman says his side have the character to keep applying pressure to the division’s big hitters at the top.

Joe Kizzi’s winner earned Bromley three points in a 1-0 victory in this fixture last year and the home fans will be confident of another three points against the Moors.

It is sure to be another action-packed weekend!
