Sports Say They Are Already Close To Naming New Boss

Eastbourne Borough have plans to appoint their new manager within days.

The National League South side parted company with Jamie Howell following their defeat at Billericay on Saturday.

The south coast club were struggling for form, winning just two of their last 14 matches.

Sports made the difficult decision on Saturday night but don’t expect to be without a manager for long than a week. They face Wealdstone this weekend, and hope to have the new man in place by then.

Howell, meanwhile, has spoken with the Eastbourne Herald after he left Priory Lane.

“The board has great respect for Jamie personally and is grateful for his efforts over the past 21 months.” the club said.

“It was simply felt that a change of management offered the best chance to reverse the run of results.

“Plans to have an interim management team in place before our next training session are well advanced and we expect to be making a further announcement very shortly.”

The departing manager has spoken to the local newspaper following his exit.

“I wanted that job and I was so determined to make it work,” Howell said. “My regret is that I didn’t get to put my stamp on things as much as I’d have liked.

“My remit for this season was to keep us in this division and develop the younger players. I feel I achieved that. Of course I wanted to be higher in the table.

“But give or take three to six points, we are about in line with what our budget is.”
