Perfect Pair Are Recognised For Their Dedication To Brackley

By Tom Scott

Those who offer their time and their services for the love of the game have never been needed more, so we are naturally delighted to announce the Vanarama Volunteer of the Year award, writes Sam Elliott.

In a time like no other, those who go above and beyond for their clubs have stood up and have been counted.

They do say two heads are always better than one.

Now it’s time to honour a couple who have been there whenever officials at Brackley Town have picked up the phone.

Dr Philip Stevens and his wife Denise give up so much of their time for the National League North club, despite everything that has been going on around them.

Dr Stevens' commitment to the club is remarkable, considering his surgery is the designated Covid-19 testing centre for Brackley and the surrounding district.

At the forefront of the coronavirus crisis for a year-and-a-half, he still continues his volunteer role with passion, giving a crucial contribution to keeping the whole community safe.

Denise isn’t just there for moral support, playing her invaluable part supporting the Saints testing regime, supervising temperature checking at games and being there for whatever her club needed.

Brackley Town chairman Francis Oliver said: "Everyone at the club is delighted that the work put in by Philip and Denise has been recognised in this way.

“I know that all clubs have volunteers who do great work – they are life-blood of Non-League football - and at Brackley, Philip and Denise represent the best in volunteering.

“The hours they put in to support the club and the commitment, experience and expertise they bring to it is invaluable.

“During these times of Covid their work has been of added importance. On behalf of everybody at Brackley Town I offer my sincerest thanks and congratulations to Philip and Denise."

Dr Stevens said: "I would like to thank, on behalf of Denise and myself, the National League for the award, it is a real honour to be presented with Volunteer of the Year.

“This award should be seen as recognition of all volunteers who work so hard for this fantastic community club”

Congratulations to our two fantastic winners!
