Magpies Are Flying At Just The Right Time Suggests Slocombe

Sam Slocombe thinks Notts County are hitting form at just the right time after finding their ‘horrible side’ again.

The Magpies have endured a difficult 2019 but all the indications are than the New Year could hold better things at Meadow Lane.

A third win in a row at Solihull Moors - their best run of the season - saw Notts into the play-off pack again.

They did what very few sides have done on Saturday, leaving the Midlands with three points in their back pocket.

Keeper Slocombe was inspirational, making a stunning late save to preserve a 1-0 win and he explained after that Neal Ardley’s side confidence is now sky high.

“It’s a very good win,” he told the club’s official website. “We’d been missing the horrible side in recent weeks and the tempo and intensity hadn’t been there at times prior to the Chesterfield game in the FA Trophy.

“I thought we controlled things well in the first half and that’s why they looked more tired than us as the match wore on.

“Hopefully we continue that style of football and the results keep coming.”

He added: “I said towards the beginning of the season that if you’re in and around where you want to be at Christmas and then hit form for the second half it’s massive.

“That’s how you give yourselves a real opportunity and it’s nice we have that now. We’ll hope to continue it into the new year.”

Notts face a trip to Maidenhead United on Wednesday looking for a fourth straight victory.
